Leading specialist contractor Prater has been appointed by Lendlease to deliver separate full external envelope packages for a new Picturehouse Cinema and Travelodge at Elwick Place in Ashford, Kent.
Designed by Guy Holloway Architects, Elwick Place will comprise a 100,000 sq ft leisure and restaurant development in the heart of Ashford town centre. Expected to open in Summer 2018, the development will include a 6 screen Picturehouse Cinema and 7 restaurant units on the ground floor. On Elwick Square, there will be a new meeting and events space, a 58-room hotel, new homes as well as a 280-space car park.
Prater is contributing to the extensive work at Elwick Place with the construction of the new Picturehouse Cinema expected to begin in December 2017. The facade package will feature curved steelwork and bespoke anodised feature mesh panels, adding an extra level of complexity for the design and installation of the structure. In addition, Prater will install Schuco curtain walling to the main entrance and atrium of the cinema and steel access doors to the back of the building.
The roofing package will include an inverted PermaQuik hot melt waterproofing system, insulation and paving, as well as paved finishes to the low level roofing and terraces. The main cinema roof will feature an Esha flex acoustic warm roof on a metal deck and glazed rooflights will be utilised on both areas.
Work on the new Travelodge is expected to begin early 2018. Prater’s specialist teams will deliver a complete external envelope package including another PermaQuik inverted hot melt waterproofing system as well as a lightweight insulated open vented pressed aluminium rainscreen system, Schuco opening light windows, and Schuco curtain walling.
“Being appointed at an early stage in the design process enabled close collaboration between ourselves, Lendlease, Guy Holloway Architects and the developer Stanhope,” said Karl Moxon, Bid Manager at Prater. “This ethos will ensure the successful delivery of this fantastic project.”
