Prater provided main contractor Brookfield Construction with a building envelope design and build package for the new state-of-the-art acute Peterborough City Hospital. Working on the large scale and complex hospital build, Prater installed the BRE A+ rated Sarnafil roofing system and innovative curtain walling, rainscreen and wall panel solutions.
The new hospital forms part of the Greater Peterborough Health Investment Plan and provides 612 beds, an emergency care centre, specialist rehabilitation unit, cancer unit, and high-tech diagnostic’s unit for the community.
The project specification set stringent requirements for the environmental, whole life, and service life performance standards of the 64,000 Sq m hospital, including:
• Independently certified life expectancy in excess of 40 years • Low maintenance costs • Recyclability • Aesthetic suitability
With over 10 years experience in hospital construction, Prater met these challenges head on to deliver a scope of works which would continue to meet the legislative and occupier demands for the useful life of the building.
Built on a tight city centre site, Prater used a semi-unitised construction approach for the hospital to ensure the materials were 'fit for purpose' when delivered onsite, and installed immediately providing instant access for M&E installers.
