Overview Expand

First Street Manchester, a joint venture partnership between developer Ask and Manchester City Council, is a 20-acre site in the centre of the city scheme that will deliver up to 1 million square feet of sustainable, campus style office buildings – providing an ideal centre for business and enterprise.

Main contractor Wates appointed Lindner Prater to deliver the roofing and cladding package for Home, an independent film hub and visual arts centre at the heart of the development. Key to our appointment was our experience in high value and complex commercial projects, together with our product knowledge and design expertise

Our in-house design team contributed towards the design of the glazing and curtain walling in the prefabrication stages to help ensure the system allowed for building movement and live loads. With the ability to manufacture off-site at our Thurrock production facilities, this helped to overcome significant logistical challenges on-site but ensuring that roofing, curtain walling and glazing materials were delivered only when the installation teams were ready.

This approach helped us overcome heavy congestion on-site, as well as other logistical challenges caused by the awkward location of the project: works had to be carried out within a restrictive space, alongside a number of other contractors, on a building that is next to a railway arch and directly in the middle of Manchester.
