We have recently been appointed by Blue Sky Building to provide the façade and roofing package to the Moxy Hotel in London, Stratford.

Situated next to Westfield shopping centre and adjacent to the Olympic Park, the Moxy Hotel is the first UK hotel from the Marriott’s budget brand. Expected to finish later within the year, the hotel will comprise of over seven storeys and 279 rooms, with vibrant, multi functional lobby areas that feature ‘plug and meet’ points, large writing walls and a modern video wall as well as a 24/7 self-service grab and go food area and evening bar. The hotel is ideal for business meetings and the modern traveller, providing numerous built in USB ports and free Wi-Fi in every room.

The Prater team began work in February 2017 to deliver extensive work to the hotel façade. This includes glazed curtain walling and windows, glazed balustrades, GRC wall cladding, FibreC rainscreen, render, bespoke architectural metalwork features, composite cladding, louvre screens and the installation of illuminated oriel privacy windows.

The project also includes hot melt waterproofing, a plug planted green roof and ballast finishes to the courtyard roof and inverted hot melt waterproofing. There is also a sedum blanket green roof to the hotel’s main roof.

Furthermore, the project will also integrate the Local Labour Strategy; which ensures that all employees are paid the London Living Wage and that a targeted 25% of the workforce is recruited from Growth Boroughs.

Shane Blackett, Pre-Contract Manager commented: “The Moxy hotel provides an interesting challenge for us, we are delivering a very complicated façade package on a small building footprint with multiple façade materials and interfaces. However, the fact that we are fixing the façade to a pre-fabricated Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) pod system, is allowing us to progress efficiently and to a high quality standard. In addition, we have extensive experience dealing with complex projects and are able to work collaboratively with the full project delivery team to ensure successful results.”
